Pee in the streets

The problem of rowdy Quinnipiac University students is not something the university should have to deal with if it is happening off campus. Instead, it should be the town of Hamden and city of New Haven’s problem. If residents and law enforcement want the students to stop behaving in such a manor, than they should enforce stricter punishments. Increase fines or put repeat offenders of public intoxication or urination in jail for the night. With public urination charges, it can even be taken as far as registering as a sex offender.                     

                Shuttles taking Quinnipiac students from campus to New Haven and back is a good idea. Without them students would be more inclined to drink and drive. Having more drunk drivers on the roads and more students possibly getting injured or killed, is not appealing to anybody. If these shuttles are taken away though, this is exactly what will happen. If someone needs an example just look at what happens during spring weekend at the University of Connecticut every year.              

                Unless town and law officials are willing to step up, this problem will not stop anytime soon. Unfortunately, it seems as if they will keep blaming Quinnipiac instead of doing something about it themselves. It is a lot easier to talk than do.

On Friday, December 2nd go to the Mary Baldwin room at the Cheshire Public Library to learn more about the Anime Club. From 3:00 to 4:30 PM the Anime Club will be holding their monthly meeting to discuss "Manga", view some of the latest Anime releases, and enjoy Japanese cuisine such as Ramune and Pocky. Looking to listen to some holiday music? Then head on over to the Palace Theater located at 100 East Main Street in Waterbury for "Christmas at the Palace". Frugale Family 11/16-11/23

Head on over to the Cheshire Public Library on Wednesday, November 16th for Thanksgiving story time and crafts. Children ages 4 and above can attend for free. The event is from 3:30-4:30 PM in the Mary Baldwin room located on the main floor. Registration is required ahead of time. Go see the Quinnipiac's men's basketball team take on Navy on Saturday, November 19th at 2PM. The game is at the TD Bank center located at 305 Sherman Avenue in Hamden. Come see Broadway singer/actress Kimberly Hester Tabor (The Producers, Titanic, Crazy for You) on Sunday, November 20th at the First Congregational Church located on the town green. She will be headlining the 7th annual musical extravaganza. The event has free admission for all with complimentary refreshments available at intermission. Donations as well as the opportunity to purchase Christmas items will be available. All proceeds will benefit AIDS orphans in the African country of Malawi. Free parking will be available behind the church.

On Tuesday, November 22nd head over to Holiday Cinemas in Wallingford for $5 Bargain Day. All 2D movies are $5 at every showtime throughout the day. 3D movies are $7 throughout the day.
On turkey day go root for the Cheshire Rams football team as they take on rival Southington in the annual Thanksgiving day game. This year the game is at Cheshire High School located at 525 South Main Street. Ticket prices are $7 for non-students and $5 for students and senior citizens if purchased in advance. If purchased on the day of the game it is $8 for everyone. The game starts at 10AM.

Legalization of Drugs

I was surprised to learn that drugs for personal use have all been legalized in Portugal. While I think it is fine to legalize marijuana, I am not so sure about all other drugs. Most of these drugs are made illegal for a reason. Besides negative health consequences, they can cause people to commit other crimes while under the influence. How often do individuals steal or commit robberies to get money to fuel their habit?

All marijuana would make someone do is sit around. That is why I would not be concerned if this was legalized. In fact, I feel it really could help the economy. The government can even tax marijuana like they do alcohol and cigarettes. Plus, it would create new business's and new jobs. While there is currently 9 percent unemployment in the country, this could go a long way in decreasing that.

Also, I feel it would decrease the amount of regular users if it was legalized. I am convinced that half the appeal for regular users is that they are doing something illegal. If this stigma was taken away, it might decrease the appeal, especially to teenagers.
